CWL Sydney - Annual General Meeting

One hundred members and guests attended the Catholic Women's League, Archdiocese of Sydney AGM on Tuesday, 14 November, 2006.

AGM 2006 President Moya Potts welcomed all members, as well as State President CWLA - NSW Mary Harrold and representatives of the Dioceses of Parramatta, Broken Bay and Wollongong.
Carmel Keys, President of Australian Church Women and Olya Kolomyjec from the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League, were also acknowledged.
CWL Sydney Chaplain, Father Ray Farrell led all present through a beautiful Opening Liturgy with the theme "Spread your wings - continue to EVOLVE in faith and friendship"

Prayers were said for the rural communities in the drought - stricken areas of our country.
Sr Enid Doherty from the Sisters of Charity Outreach spoke on the distressed towns in the Wilcannia-Forbes area where many people are suffering from depression.
A collection was taken up ($700.00) and proceeds will be distributed to areas most in need prior to Christmas. outreach.stvincents.com.au

Guest Speaker

Anne, MoyaSister Anne Jordan from Cana Communities cana.org.au spoke on her involvement with people who are most in need, who are suffering from loneliness, mental illness, addictions, homelessness and other factors that alienate them from within society.
Cana Communities has been the Sydney Archdiocese CWL Project of the Year and Sister Anne acknowledged the wonderful contribution the members have made.
Sister quoted Mother Teresa:

"The Poor must know we love them, that they are wanted. They themselves have nothing to give but love. We are trying to bring peace to the world through our work."

Business and Reports

The AGM was opened at 11.30am.
Following the Business Session, Reports were presented by President Moya Potts who highlighted the activities and projects undertaken throughout the year.
Moya thanked all branch members and Sydney Council for the wonderful contribution made throughout the year, particular with reference to the successful State Conference.
Secretary Helen Cook and Treasurer Denise McCaffery spoke to their reports and all portfolio holders presented their reports.

World Youth Day

Following lunch, the meeting was addressed by Jo Grainger.
Jo is Evangelisation and Catechesis Project Officer for WYD08 and she outlined the preparations in hand for WYD08.

Jo also presented the World Youth Day 08 DVD "Get with the Spirit" and copies were given out to the members.

This wonderful event will be a highlight for all.

Jo asked us all to do our part in helping young people to "Get with the Spirit".

The day concluded at 2.30pm with the closing liturgy.
