On an international level Catholic Womens' League
Australia is affiliated to World Union of Catholic Women
Organisations (WUCWO) an international non-government
organisation which has a membership of 30 million women in 95
affiliated organisations.
In solidarity with all Catholic women, its aim is to study and
encourage women's participation in the Church's mission
of evangelization.
WUCWO has consultative status on five councils of the United
Nations, is recognised by the Holy See and maintains relations
with seven Vatican departments.
CWLA has a member on the World Board. To belong to such a vital
worldwide and active organisation of Catholic women is very
stimulating, exciting and adds a powerful dimension to CWL
Australia.
Australia and WUCWO
In Canberra CWLA hosted the 1996 WUCWO Assembly which is held in a different country every four years. 700 women from 45 countries attended and experienced the amazing global community of faith and interest, working together to help and encourage each other to form a better and more equitable future for women and families worldwide.
Beijiing Conference
In 1995 Peg McEntee (National President 2002 - 2003) was one of the few non-government representatives from Australia to attend the Bejiing Womens Conference. It is vital that Catholic women have a voice at such conferences, particularly when discussion comes to topics of abortion, euthanasia etc.
In 2003 Peg McEntee and our International Secretary Madge Fahy travelled to New York to lobby representatives at the United Nations when the subjects under discussion were trafficking in women and abuse of women and children.
Other Catholic Organisations
Locally we work closely with other Catholic organisations e.g. CWL have formed a Trilogy Committee with the Knights of the Southern Cross and St. Vincent de Paul Society, supporting each other on a Diocesan and State level with Conferences, publications on moral issues, fund raising etc.
