WINTER WONDERLAND
Report: Chris McKirdy
What a wonderful day we all had at The Castlereagh Boutique
Hotel on Thursday July 26 celebrating 'Winter
Wonderland'.

Catholic Women's League Sydney President Moya Potts welcomed
everyone to the luncheon, especially Emma Whitteron and Emily
Tighe from Wilcannia/Forbes Diocese.
Emma spoke on what it would mean for the youth from
Wilcannia/Forbes Diocese to attend World Youth Day and Emily,
from Red Bend Catholic College is hoping to attend World Youth
Day next year. Moya introduced Claire Atkins, the World Youth Day
Youth Festival Planner. Claire spoke of her earliest memories of
women supporting and being active in the church, just like our
holy mother. Today, things have not changed, women are still such
a significant force in our church and our community and
acknowledged the Catholic Women's League as a great example
of this.

Catholic Women's League Sydney members were joined by many of their friends including CWL members from Maitland, Wollongong, Broken Bay Diocese and the State Executive. We were also joined by staff from the World Youth Day Office and staff from Polding Centre. Generous donations were received from so many branches.
One hundred and thirty women were greeted by a beautifully
decorated room in the Winter Wonderland theme and a delicious
festive luncheon.

After a delicious meal and drinks - we were ready for some
fun. 'Winter Wonderland' song sheets were on each table
and the 'Winter Wonderland Choir' (Moya and Emily Potts,
Helen Butler, Denise McCaffery, Christine Britten, Helen Cook and
Chris McKirdy) looking fabulous in their colourful beanies and
scarfs led the singing! Everyone was still humming hours later!
We all felt ready for a sleigh ride!
With 8 raffle and 10 lucky door prizes, a number of people went
home with arms full. We are proud and happy to report that our
successful Winter Wonderland raised $4345 for the youth from the
Wilcannia/Forbes Diocese to attend World Youth Day 2008. THANK
YOU ALL.
